AUKUS: COLD FEET DOWN UNDER

AUKUS and Australia, current situation (MAP: The Economist 08-23)

Many Australians seems to have surprising second thoughts about the AUKUS alliance (Australia, United Kingdom, United Sates), especially its possible effects in the rivalry between America and China, and also its possible consequences on their respective allies.

Labor representatives and leading intellectuals, like John Menadue (author of Pearls & Irritations), have played a great role in this evolution of Aussie thinking about AUKUS in general. They had legitimate doubts about the whole thing.

It is even possible (who knows?) that my own articles on the subject, in this blog, have had an impact on the matter. They were sent to some of the most important Australian universities, located all over the island-continent, from Perth to Adelaide, and from Melbourne to Brisbane, etc., and were specifically addressed to all the teachers who are shaping the minds of the next generation of Australians. What is certain, is that those articles have been read a lot in the land Down Under in the last few months, according to the statistical section of this blog dedicated to the past, the present and the future of the human species.

Let's hope those doubts have a beneficial impact in the long run. Let's hope they can make a difference, help prevent an armed conflict, and avoid a lot of fatalities...

At least, Australians are starting to face up to the real and numerous dangers of becoming an active participant in what may well turn up to be the beginning of a full-scale World War 3...
